Set Theory is a workout tracker. We collect what the app needs to work and nothing else. We have no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no trackers of any kind. We do not sell your data, and we never share it for anyone else's marketing.
This policy explains what Set Theory LLC ("we," "us") collects when you use the Set Theory mobile app and settheory.fit, why we collect it, who else touches it, and how to get rid of it. If anything here is unclear, write to support@settheory.fit and a person will answer.
what we collect
| category | what it is |
|---|---|
| account | Email address, password, username, first name, and date of birth. Your password is hashed by our authentication provider and is never visible to us. |
| profile | Optional details you choose to add: height, body weight, training goal, experience level, preferred units, and a profile photo. |
| training | The programs you build, every workout session, and each set within it — reps, weight, duration, effort rating, and any notes you type. Also the timestamps of when you trained. |
| body weight | If you log your body weight, we keep each entry with its date so the app can show change over time. |
| social | Who you follow and who follows you, follow requests, your activity posts, reactions you leave, accounts you block, and any reports you submit. |
| subscription | Whether you have an active subscription or trial, and its renewal state. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store your card details. |
| technical | When the app checks for an update it sends your platform, app version, and update channel. This carries no personal information and no account identifier. |
We collect nothing else. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier, no location tracking, and no third-party tracker in the app. We do not read your photo library — the photo picker hands us only the single image you select.
why we collect it
- To run the app. Your programs, sessions, and sets are the product. Without them there is nothing to show you.
- To build programs. Your goal, experience, available equipment, session length, and any injuries you tell us about are used to select exercises. This runs entirely on your phone.
- To operate social features. Your username, first name, and profile photo identify you to people you have approved.
- To manage your subscription. We check with Apple whether your subscription is active so the app knows what to unlock.
- To keep people safe. Blocks and reports let us act on abuse.
- To verify your age. Your date of birth is used to confirm you are old enough to hold an account and to use social features. It is never shown to anyone else.
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you (running the app and your subscription), our legitimate interests (safety, abuse prevention, security), and legal obligation (age verification and record-keeping).
what we never do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
- We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone for their own marketing.
- We do not send your workouts, body weight, or any other personal data to an artificial intelligence service. Set Theory's program builder runs on your device and calls no external AI.
- We do not use your data to train any machine learning model.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
who else handles your data
We use a small number of vendors to run the service. They process data on our instructions and for no purpose of their own.
- Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage in the United States. Everything described above lives here.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription state. It receives your account's internal identifier and what Apple reports about your purchase. It never receives your email address, your name, or any training data.
- Apple — processes the payment itself and tells us only whether the subscription is valid. Your payment details go to Apple, never to us.
- Expo — delivers app updates. It receives no personal information.
We will also disclose information if the law genuinely requires it, or to protect someone's safety. If Set Theory is ever acquired or merged, your data may transfer as part of that business, and this policy will continue to apply until you are told otherwise.
what other people can see
Set Theory accounts are private by default. When someone asks to follow you, the request stays pending until you approve it.
People who find your profile can see your username, first name, profile photo, and your follower and following counts. That is all. Your date of birth, height, body weight, goal, and email address are never shown to anyone.
When you share a completed workout, the post shows the workout name, how many sets you did, and how long it took. It does not include which exercises you did, what weights you lifted, or any notes you wrote.
One thing worth knowing. Profile photos are stored at a public web address. We do not publish or list that address anywhere, but anyone who has it can open the image without logging in. If that matters to you, use a photo you would be comfortable being public, or skip it — the app works fine without one.
Workout cards you export through the share sheet are created on your phone and handed straight to iOS. They are never uploaded to us. Once you send one to someone, where it goes is outside our control.
age
You must be at least 13 to hold a Set Theory account. We ask for your date of birth during sign-up and block the account before it is created if you are under 13, so no information about you is stored.
All social features — following, activity posts, reactions, and profile search — require you to be 18 or older. This is enforced on our servers, not just in the app.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@settheory.fit and we will delete the account and its data.
how long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete it — see below.
We are not currently storing backups of deleted accounts for later restoration. Our hosting provider maintains routine infrastructure backups for disaster recovery, which are overwritten on a rolling basis.
deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: open profile, scroll to account, and choose delete account. It is permanent and there is no undo.
Deletion removes all of it: your login and email, your profile and photo, every program and workout session, every set and note, your body weight history, your follows and followers, your activity posts, your reactions, your blocks, and any reports you filed. Nothing is anonymized and kept — it is deleted.
Your subscription is separate. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription, because we cannot cancel it for you. Cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or it will keep renewing.
your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy in a portable format. Email support@settheory.fit and we will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
california
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion or correction, to receive a copy, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the app. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request for you.
europe and the united kingdom
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Your data is stored in the United States; we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for that transfer.
security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Your login session is held in the iOS Keychain. Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form. Our database enforces row-level access rules so one account cannot read another's data, and the rules that make social features 18+ run on the server rather than in the app, where they could be bypassed.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you.
a note on health information
Your workouts and body weight are health-adjacent, and we treat them that way: they are never sold, never shared for marketing, and never sent to an AI service. Set Theory does not connect to Apple Health and reads nothing from it.
We are not a healthcare provider, and Set Theory is not a medical service, so US health privacy law (HIPAA) does not apply to us. That does not change how we handle your data — it just means the protection comes from this policy and from how the app is built, not from that statute.
changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top, and for anything significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Set Theory after a change means you accept the updated policy.
