These terms are the agreement between you and Set Theory LLC. They cover your account, your subscription, what you post, and the limits of what a workout app can responsibly promise you. They also serve as the license agreement for the app itself.
By creating an account or using Set Theory, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Please read section 9 carefully — it concerns training safety — and section 14, which affects how disputes are resolved.
1. who can use set theory
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are between 13 and 18, you may use Set Theory only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf.
You must be at least 18 to use any social feature — following accounts, posting activity, reacting, or appearing in search. We enforce this on our servers.
You may not use Set Theory if we have previously terminated your account, or if doing so would break the law where you live.
2. your account
Give us accurate information when you sign up, including a real date of birth. Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us at support@settheory.fit if you think someone else has access to it.
One person, one account. Do not share it, sell it, or transfer it.
3. subscriptions and billing
Set Theory includes a seven-day free trial from the day you create your account. During the trial you have full access. When it ends, the features that move your training forward — starting sessions, building and editing programs, and viewing progress and history — require a subscription. Your existing data stays yours and stays visible.
Set Theory offers a monthly subscription and an annual subscription. The current price and billing period for each are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency. We do not list prices here because Apple sets them per region and they change.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Your Apple Account is charged the renewal price within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. You can do this at any time, including immediately after purchasing.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for, and it does not produce a partial refund.
- Deleting your Set Theory account does not cancel your subscription. We have no ability to cancel it for you — you must cancel it through Apple.
All purchases are processed by Apple, and Apple's refund policy applies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves. To request one, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
If we change the price of a subscription, the change applies to your next renewal, and Apple will ask you to confirm before charging you a higher price.
We may offer free or discounted access to particular people at our discretion. Those grants are a courtesy, not a contractual right, and can be ended.
4. license to use the app
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Set Theory on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. This license is for your own use. It is not a sale — we retain all rights we do not expressly grant you here.
You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app; rent, lease, lend, sell, or sublicense it; remove any proprietary notices; use it to build a competing product; or access it through automated means, including scraping our servers or interfering with them.
5. what you post
You keep ownership of everything you create in Set Theory — your programs, your logged workouts, your notes, your profile photo, and anything you share. It is yours.
To operate the app we need permission to handle it: you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, and display your content, solely to run Set Theory and show it to you and to the people you have approved. This license exists only so the service can function, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
We will not use your content to advertise or promote Set Theory without asking you first.
You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
6. how to behave
Do not use Set Theory to harass, threaten, bully, impersonate, or abuse anyone. Do not post content that is hateful, sexually explicit, violent, illegal, or that sexualizes minors. Do not spam, advertise, or run schemes. Do not attempt to access another person's account or data. Do not upload malware, probe our infrastructure, or try to defeat the subscription.
You can block any account, which stops all interaction in both directions, and you can report content or accounts from inside the app. We review reports and may remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts.
We are a small team and we do not pre-screen what people post. We are not obliged to monitor content, and moderation decisions are ours to make.
7. how programs are generated
Set Theory's program builder is an algorithm running on your phone. It selects exercises and prescribes sets and reps based on the goal, experience level, equipment, session length, and injuries you enter. It is deterministic software, not a coach, and not artificial intelligence — nothing you enter is sent to any AI service.
A generated program is a starting point, not a prescription. It does not account for your medical history, your form, your recovery, or anything happening in your life. You are responsible for judging whether it suits you, and for changing it when it does not.
8. availability
We aim to keep Set Theory running and to keep your data safe, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we ever shut the service down, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.
Keep your own records of anything you cannot afford to lose.
9. training carries risk. please read this one.
9. health, fitness, and injury
Set Theory is not medical advice. We are not doctors, physical therapists, or certified trainers, and nothing in the app is a diagnosis, treatment, or professional recommendation. The app is for general fitness and informational purposes only.
Talk to a doctor before you start. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before beginning any exercise program, especially if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, a prior injury, a chronic illness, or any other condition, or if you are over 40 and have been inactive.
Resistance training can hurt you. Lifting weights carries a genuine risk of muscle strain, joint injury, disc injury, fainting, heart attack, and in rare cases death. That risk is greater with heavy loads, with poor form, when training alone, and when training to failure.
You assume that risk. By using Set Theory you accept full responsibility for your training and for any injury or loss that results from it. Stop immediately and seek medical attention if you feel chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or any pain that is sharp or unfamiliar. Never train through pain because an app told you to.
Set Theory records what you tell it. It cannot see your form, judge your fatigue, or know when you should stop. Those judgments are yours, and a professional's.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from profile → account → delete account. Deletion is permanent and removes your data as described in our privacy policy. Remember to cancel your subscription separately through Apple.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if keeping it open would create risk for other people. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
11. our intellectual property
Set Theory, its name, logo, design, exercise library, program-generation logic, and software are owned by Set Theory LLC and protected by intellectual property law. These terms give you no right to use our branding.
12. disclaimers
Except where the law does not allow it, Set Theory is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that it will meet your goals, or that any fitness result will follow from using it.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Set Theory LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from your use of the app.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Set Theory is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or one hundred US dollars.
This section does not limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify Set Theory LLC against claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the app, your breach of these terms, or content you post.
14. governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Informal resolution first. If you have a problem, email support@settheory.fit and give us 30 days to sort it out. Most things end here.
Arbitration. If we cannot resolve it, you and Set Theory LLC agree that any dispute will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. Arbitration will take place in California or, at your election, by phone, video, or written submission. You and we both waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action.
Two exceptions. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court instead, and either of us may seek an injunction in court to protect intellectual property.
You can opt out. If you do not want to be bound by this arbitration agreement, email support@settheory.fit with the subject line "arbitration opt-out" within 30 days of first accepting these terms. Opting out costs you nothing and does not affect your account or anything else in these terms.
If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable, the whole of this section 14 does not apply and disputes go to the state or federal courts located in California.
15. apple
These terms are between you and Set Theory LLC only. Apple is not a party to them, and Apple is not responsible for Set Theory or its content.
- We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and for providing any maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and defending any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and have the right to enforce them against you.
16. changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect and update the effective date above. Continuing to use Set Theory after that means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.
17. the rest
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce something immediately, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These terms and our privacy policy are the entire agreement between us about Set Theory.
